Stockport Greens celebrate re-election of James Frizzell with increased majority

6 May 2024

Stockport Greens are delighted that following a strong campaign James Frizzell, one of our 3 Green Councillors in Reddish South ward, has been re-elected with an increased majority of 743 over Labour.

James (pictured below with some of the campaign team at the count) said afterwards: "it was a really strong team effort to defeat a robust Labour campaign. I'm extremely grateful to all our amazing volunteers for their door knocking, leafleting and envelope stuffing, as well as all the other activities they do year round, which earns the support and trust of the residents in our community."

We also finished second to Labour in 3 of the 4 surrounding wards (Heatons North, Heatons South and Reddish North) while in the other (Brinnington & Stockport Central) we were only 44 votes short of second.

The Greater Manchester mayoral election also provided encouragement, as although Andy Burnham won convincingly as expected, our candidate Hannah Spencer increased the Green vote by around 50% compared with the last elections in 2021, enabling us to save our deposit for the first time.
