Green initiative leads to Stockport Council strengthening its approach to biodiversity

13 January 2023

At Stockport Council's January meeting Councillors have unanimously backed a green initiative designed to strengthen its approach to biodiversity.

In 2019 the green group on Trafford Council submitted a successful motion to improve biodiversity in parks and roadsides    Green Councillor Liz Crix discussed similar ideas for Stockport with Mark Roberts, the Lib Dem Cabinet member for Climate Change & Environment.

As a first step the pair put forward a motion to the Stockport Council meeting which will see an all-party group develop plans to tackle biodiversity loss.

Liz Crix said; "We have become one of the most nature depleted countries in the world, and many studies have shown the positive impact that nature rich environments can have on mental health and well-being. It is vital therefore we do much more in Stockport to address this. I am pleased that this motion has been passed so we have a framework to progress."
