Greens promote petition and meeting about 20mph limit for Stockport roads

16 November 2021

Stockport Green Party is campaigning for a borough-wide speed limit of 20 mph on all residential roads, and has organised a meeting and petition in support of this.

Lead campaigner and Reddish South candidate Liz Crix explained: “Many residents have told us how concerned they are about speeding traffic in their neighbourhood. Stockport Council has expressed support in principle for a borough wide 20mph speed limit, but is yet to take steps to put this into practice. “

“I therefore have started a petition, which people can sign here, asking Stockport Council to implement a 20mph speed limit."

“On Thursday November 25th we are pleased to welcome Rod King, founder and campaign director of 20's Plenty for Us to a meeting at Heaton Chapel Community Centre, Broadstone Hall Road South, SK4 5JD (opposite the primary school) starting at 7.30pm. Rod will share his knowledge to help our campaign, and members of the public are very welcome to come and hear this inspiring national activist. "

Green Party Councillors have been prominent throughout the country on this issue. York Greens secured the first 'trial' 20mph residential street in York that ultimately led to a citywide scheme while Stroud Greens have implemented area-wide 20mph limits across much of the town and further afield. Locally our sister party in Trafford has been pressing the Labour administration into action on this issue.
