Trevor Smith

I have lived in Compstall with my family for the past 10 years. I currently work for Citizens Advice in Derbyshire, where I am employed as a money advice worker. Prior to this I worked in primary education for 30 years, with the last 15 as a Headteacher. I am also studying for a degree in environmental studies with the Open University, in between caring for my disabled son who lives at home with us.

I have been a member of the Green Party for five years. I was prompted to join after becoming disillusioned with the seeming inability of any of the main political parties to adequately come to terms with protecting the environment and ensuring a safe future for the coming generations. I am also opposed to the continuing cuts being made to the least well-off in society; cuts which are not only unnecessary, but driven by political ideology rather than rational economics and fairness.

At a local level, I would support:

  • Investment in an expansion of social housing.
  • Improvements to public transport in an attempt to reduce congestion locally.
  • Subsidised insulation, and solar and wind power for homes and businesses.
  • The introduction of 20mph zones in all residential areas.
  • The protection and maintenance of all public spaces and the Green Belt.
