Gary Lawson is a recently retired Church of England vicar, who worked in the Bolton area and before that in Wythenshawe and south London. He got married recently and now lives in the Reddish South Ward in which he is standing for election. Gary, who was the Green Party's candidate for Stockport in last year's General Election, has been a member of the Party for over twenty years. He is longing for the day when the first Green councillor gets the chance to serve the people of Stockport and make a difference.
If Gary is elected he would continue to oppose any building development in Reddish Vale and anywhere else in Stockpport which is Green Belt land. At a time when central government is imposing austerity, he would seek locally to give priority to protecting mental health services and other services for the more vulnerable members of our community, including domiciliary services. He wants the views of residents and small independent local businesses to have more influence over development both in the suburbs and in the Town Centre, including the Market. Last but not least, he would seek to reduce and slow down traffic in residential areas, so as to reduce air pollution and improve both health and safety.
