Cheadle West & Gatley 2023

Rayne Barrett

I am delighted to have been selected to stand as the Green Party candidate for Cheadle West and Gatley; my home ward.

My background has been in administration, including 12 years in the NHS. I currently work in a Primary School in Wythenshawe. I am divorced, with two grown up daughters.

During the Covid lockdown I spent time learning about the Climate Emergency and its impact on health and populations. I have changed my life to a lower carbon footprint, but it didn't seem enough, which led me into politics where I hope to make more of an impact in my local area.

My dream is to own an "eco" home – built with underfloor heating and solar panels, which would have a lower carbon footprint and would also mean low energy bills. New housing is still being built with gas boilers - we are moving far too slowly and, if elected, I will campaign in this area to provide affordable, greener housing. In fact, as your Green Party Councillor, every decision will be made after answering the question: is this the best decision regarding the environment/Climate Emergency and its impact locally?

Please don't think that your vote won't count; if everyone who thought the same voted Green, it could certainly make a huge difference in getting more Green Party Councillors elected. Also, the total number of Green votes nationwide are counted towards how much TV air time we are given.

The UK Parliament along with most councils, including Stockport, declared a climate emergency in 2019. This was first proposed in 2018 by a Green Councillor in Bristol, which is why we need Green voices in councils. Please vote Green in the local election on 4th May, to continue making the right decisions for our future and for the future of our children..
